Choosing the Right Rug for Your Design Style (2/2)

Choosing the perfect rug isn’t just about covering your floors—it’s about infusing your living space with your unique style and personality. It’s about finding that one piece that speaks to you and ties everything together to create a home that truly reflects who you are. Whether you’re drawn to the rugged charm of industrial lofts, the cozy simplicity of minimalism, or the vibrant energy of eclectic design, there’s a rug out there waiting to become the heart of your room. There are core factors and elements within these rug designs that are to be considered to simplify your shopping experience. This article explore the different design styles and ways to navigate choosing the best kind for yourself. Let’s explore the rug styles that can turn your house into a home that’s unmistakably yours.

1. Neoclassical

If neo-classical isn’t the most classic option there is! Neo-classical comes with a touch of timeless sophistication, which needs to matched up with the right rug. To execute this design style well, choose a hand-knotted Persian designed rug in soft colours of your choosing. This rug will whisper elegance, grace and timelessness, seamlessly blending with the classic charm of neo-classical interiors. You could pass it on through generations without giving it’s fashionable relevance a second thought.  It is ever-green after all. It could be lying on your floor for decades on end and you still wouldn’t get bored of this immutable beauty.

2. Gothic

To quote Kesha, “Oh the Drama of it all!” The mysterious allure of gothic design is impeccable in itself, however when it is combined with deep or dark-coloured hand-tufted blends, it is unmatched. A blend of wool and viscose or silk materials in this rug would elevate the dimension off the floor. The viscose or silk adds a sheen to the carpet that the pure wool otherwise wouldn’t provide. Keeping the design limited to about two colours to maintain the balance between drama and sophistication is often ideal. Although you can really go for a deep shade of any colour you desire, a deep scarlet red or any of the jewel toned rug with a gothic design style space hit the spot.

3. Art Nouveau

It’s all about freeform, curves, the flow of designs in Art Nouveau. This one is whimsical and with a mis-shapen rug, it becomes a masterpiece, echoing the organic flow of freedom and nature. If your design style is art nouveau, you’re already creative enough. I doubt you need more advice than this. Avoid sharp edges or unprompted symmetry and feel free to follow your spirit.

4. Bauhaus or Memphis

The animated, charming, almost enchanted look of a Memphis or bauhaus aesthetic can be achieved with a geometric rug. Yes, it is conventional and stereotypical. However, when the colours of the rug are aligned well with the colours and shapes of the interior decor, it enhances the space altogether without doing too much. Clear-cut edges and bold colours that complement your existing interiors is your design weapon. Bold, vibrant, and structured, your rug should echo the artistic principles of these iconic design movements. Assuming that your furniture is already making a statement, choose rugs that enhance the colour schemes rather than clash with or stand out. Rugs in this design style would best be achieved through hand-tufted rugs in colours and designs of your choosing. It is easier to work with, light on the wallet, and provides you with an ample amount of freedom.

Bonus Tip: Go for structured or symmetrical furniture, like couches and tables, in solid colours. It would give the room a chance to breathe while still having the rainbow within its grasp.

5. Bohemian

Everyone thinks you’re just free spirited, but that’s not all is it? Comfort and warmth are really key for you and fall is a season you absolutely love and best believe you want that in your space! A shaggy rug bursting with deep colors can be your companion. To step on it in its softness and colourful glory, that is home. However, if you’re going for a muted look on the floor, while amping up the other pieces in your home, you can certainly opt for a flat-weave rug or a jute rug to ground your space. Whether it’s flat-woven, jute, or hand-tufted with a shaggy pile, your rug will run free.

6. Brutalist

When it comes to Brutalist aesthetics, don’t shy away from bold choices. Opt for shaggy rugs to introduce texture that mimics the raw, industrial appeal. Picture this: a shaggy rug beneath your feet, creating a dramatic contrast against the concrete backdrop. Shaggy rugs not only add comfort but also play with light, enhancing the overall ambiance. Your space would come alive with shadows and highlights, making it a statement.

Alternatively, hand-tufted rugs, especially in blends, bring a touch of luxury while maintaining that Brutalist edge. The key ingredient here would be silk or viscose- something with a little sheen in its yarn. It’s the perfect imperfect marriage between comfort and concrete. Brutalism, after all, is all about elements of contrast- be it through colour, texture, or pattern.

7. Eco-Brutalist

For the eco-conscious Brutalist connoisseur, the choice is clear. Jute rugs or hand-tufted wonders in natural fibers create an eco-brutalist look that speaks volumes. Embracing sustainability without compromising on style is what’s important here. These styles of rug transfer beautifully from indoors to outdoors and you can seamlessly move your mood from concrete to chlorophyll.

That’s not all!
